Why do we need your help?

I set up this page, hoping to get assistance from the kindness of strangers.

I try to do local fundraising, but I cannot get a lot of donations because I am not a non-profit. I can't be a non profit because it's for an individual, and I can't make it for small cell because it needs to outlive me, so I would need to form a whole organization.

And we can't rely on a lot of non-profit cancer charities - because a lot of them do not provide assistance for people with small cell cancer! - they want to give their money and time to people who have a better survival rate than those who have small cell. The median survival rate is 8-13 months. There isn't the research and funding for this cancer because it is so deadly, compared to a lot of other, more preventable, cancers.

So what am I to do? Faced with a "not if, but when" death sentence for my father, and because it's small cell, we aren't eligible for a lot of non-profit help we would otherwise qualify for on an income level. Dad's responding to chemotherapy. He's never lost a battle. But I am basically being told that because he can't be cured, I can't get financial help to make sure that he has as much time with me as possible. I lost my beloved 21 year old brother in November 2009. I can't lose my father too.

Why should dad look at his painkillers and think if he can get away with just bearing the pain to save the $20?

If you are arriving here via an advertisement - the ads, the site, the group- are all run by me, his 23 year old daughter. I am spending my own money, not money from others, to try and help my parents by raising money for his care.

When you click on the ad to donate- it costs me $1-2 each time.

Everything donated goes directly to his care, all donations will be reported with the EIN I have created for our fundraising efforts. My father gets a small social security check from his disability, my mom works in a factory. Should there be funds above and beyond what is required, it will go for small-cell cancer research.

Please, if you've clicked through an ad, please help me at least offset what I'm spending! We live in a small farming town - my local fundraising isn't enough. Look at our group on facebook- you will see that this is all very real.
